ABOUT SAIL REC!

OUR PROGRAMS
Sail Rec! is A 24 year-old community boating program located at the Heritage State Park Boathouse, 200 Davol Street, Fall River, operated on a permit arrangement with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (MA DCR). Our friendly staff is US Sailing Level I certified and we teach sailing in prams, Cape Cod Mercury keelboats, RS Quest centerboard dinghies, Sunfish, and 420s. Our boathouse houses a classroom, restrooms, repair shop, and sail loft.

SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM, AFTERNOONS 12:30 – 4:30
Our Summer Youth Program will teach your child (8-18) the skills necessary to navigate a small sailboat alone or with others in beginner, intermediate, and advanced circles. Each afternoon’s class starts with classroom instruction (chalk talk) which includes simple theory, knot-tying, review of the previous day’s activities, and an introduction to the day’s water drill. Next, students rig their boats and set sail for a designated drill area or fun destination. Upon return, boats are de-rigged and time permitting, the day’s activities are discussed interactively.

Each session is two weeks long, but attendance in multiple sessions is welcomed and encouraged. PFDs (personal flotation devices) are provided but we ask that your child brings a towel, sunscreen, a hat, quality sunglasses, and very importantly, a water bottle (filtered water is available on-site).
